The Pothole Surveillance Unit (PSU) is dedicated to the community above anything else. Sault Ste. Marie residents struggle every year especially after winter with the intense amount of potholes on the roads. The PSU is not an organization to maintain road conditions, but instead to map out the potholes within the city on the various roads. This map will be updated and maintained as frequently as possible for the purpose of keeping people informed.
Our map of Sault Ste. Marie potholes will all be done in "QGIS" a free and open sourced software for creating "Geographic Information Systems." To put it simply, an informational map.
Everybody is affected by the roads whether you walk, take the bus, bike, or drive and when the winter turns to spring the road conditions are at their worst. Lots of people have the same story about a major pothole ruining a tire/wheel, but did you know that potholes can actually damage more than that?
Pothole damage can be tire damage which is the most common, but it can also damage the wheel/rim, the suspension of the vehicle, the undercarriage & exhaust, sometimes even electrical issues, potholes can also cause alignment issues in a vehicle.
We recognize the city of Sault Ste. Marie and its workers are doing their best to maintain the roads with the allocated budget that they have, but sometimes there just isn't enough that they can do. The PSU doesn't hold the city at fault, but we DO believe in the strength of a community which is why this project was created. By the people for Sault Ste. Marie FOR the people of Sault Ste. Marie.
